My story begins with a traumatic delivery back in December of 2014. I experienced a very long and life-threatening delivery with my first child. After almost losing both of us i knew this was something i never wanted to experience again. I was determined to go a different route the second time around. Sadly after that 6yrs later I suffered 2 miscarriages. That didnt stop me though I was determined and so I researched how to possibly prevent it from happening again and what I can change about my daily health and lifestyle. After successfully doing so i was blessed to be pregnant with my second child. I knew then I had to decide on the birthing experience I wanted. At that moment , I decided a waterbirth was for me and did my research. I found that I needed to first find what is called a Doula. Once you reach your third trimester, you are truly on the home stretch and you will want to start preparing your body for birth. As your bump gets bigger, you will probably notice that your appetite also increases to ensure that you are getting enough energy. In your final weeks of pregnancy, it is really important to listen to your body.
Your body uses a lot of energy during labour and it’s very important you stay hydrated during this period. Aim to take a sip of fluids every 15 – 30 minutes. Another good option is to make ice cubes out of your favourite fruit juice or smoothie and suck on them.
